The Process
Novak offers completely rebuilt, running and tested powertrain packages, shipped right to your door. Whether you are V8 swapping your jeep, assembling a rock buggy or replacing the engine in your classic GM truck, our powertrain crate packages are tailored to you.
Our process starts with sourcing genuine GM V8's from donor vehicles. We strip it down and send everything through our various reconditioning processes including:
- Jet cleaning
- Ultrasonic cleaning
- Vapor honing
- Cylinder bore honing to fit new pistons
- New connecting rod & main bearings
- Valve grinding
- Valve seats replaced, cut, lapped
- Heads resurfaced
- Crank polished (ground if necessary)
- Precision metrology
- Expert final assembly
- Dyno-Master dynamic testing
- Final full run-testing on a stand with your harness, computer
All engines receive new:
- Oil pump
- Exhaust valves
- Valve seats
- Valve guides
- Valve springs
- Valve stem seals
- Pistons, (UEM Silv-O-Lite, coated (forged optional)
- Piston rings (Hastings)
- Main bearings
- Rod bearings
- Gaskets, (Fel-Pro)
- Timing set
- Head bolts
- Water pump
Optionally, we can:
- Install an upgraded cam (Brian Tooley brand
- Install high lift valve springs
- VVT & DOD options
Once the block is assembled, it's then fully dressed top to bottom with all new or refurbished sensors, injectors, alternator, power steering pump, pulleys, harmonic balancer, spark plugs, wires, intake, exhaust headers, and starter.
Next is the wiring harness. We strip the harness loom away thoroughly inspect all wires and connectors for damage. The harness is modified to function as a standalone unit and integrate directly into your conversion vehicle with a few simple
wires. The PCM is programmed to remove VATS and optimized for standalone operation. For more info on this process click here.
We install the harness on to the engine on the completed engine on our test stand where it is monitored as we calibrate it through several run cycles.
Next, the transmission is rebuilt (if applicable) and full load tested on our 400 HP dyno stand. We then bolt your transmission to the engine with any applicable adapters. your transfer case can be shipped to us for a complete rebuild, otherwise the entire rebuild kit will be in the crate, ready for your installation.
The completed powertrain is bolted to shipping stand and secured inside a fully enclosed crate. We then compile the rest of the parts you need for your specific conversion into the crate. This usually includes:
- Engine mounts
- Radiator
- Exhaust headers
- Shift linkage(s)
- Clutch components
- Air intake
- Transmission mount
- Fuel delivery kit
The crate is sealed and via our trucking network, we ship the crate right to your home or business. Due to the size of the crate, liftgate deliveries are not possible and a forklift or loading dock must be available for unloading.
