Short throw shifter upgrade for the
Jeep AX15 Transmission
The Jeep AX15 is a great transmission on its own, but the factory shifter leaves a lot of throw on the table. Novak's AX15 short throw shifter tower is a clean, serviceable way to tighten up the shift feel while staying fully compatible with stock service parts.
The Novak AX15 Short Throw Shifter Tower
This is an all-new, all-6061 aluminum shift tower body that raises the pivot point of the AX15 shifter approximately 1", resulting in about a 30% reduction in shift throw. The goal is simple: retain the durability and parts availability of the stock design, while delivering a sharper, more precise shift feel that better matches the capability of the transmission.

Serviceable by Design
The heart of this tower is its serviceability. The main pivot ball and shift finger bushings are stock AX15 parts, so when the day eventually comes to refresh them, you are using common, economical components instead of chasing down obscure, one-off pieces.
Likewise, the retaining spring, retention cup, and rubber boot are all parts from the SLR-176 kit. If you ever damage or wear out those items, the replacement kit is easily sourced.
Breather & Sealing
Just like the factory AX15 tower, this Novak tower includes a breather to allow the transmission to vent as it heats and cools. Proper breathing helps keep seals and gaskets happier over the long term and avoids the pressure buildup that can cause weeping or leaks.
Finish & Materials
The tower body is CNC-machined from 6061 aluminum for a balance of strength, weight, and corrosion resistance. Every tower is finished in Novak’s signature grey anodizing, which looks at home in both a fresh restoration and a modern, purpose-built trail rig.
Available Knobs
your shifter will require a knob with 3/8-24 fine thread. We have two basic shapes, Cylindrical and Sphyrical
This aluminum shifter knob is anodized in gun metal gray, then laser engraved with a standard 5 speed pattern. Threads are 3/8"-24 and a jam nut is included.
Installation & Compatibility
This short throw tower is designed as a direct replacement for the factory AX15 shifter tower. It is compatible with Jeep applications that originally used the AX15, including many YJ, TJ, and XJ models, as well as properly adapted swap applications using an AX15.
The tower is intended to work with standard AX15 shift rails and internal components.
