when doing my conversion the mechanic didn't have the dust shield from the donor ax15, and instead used the one from the 998 we replaced from my 1974 amc javelin. Initially we were having some clutch engagement issues, but those worked themselves out. The starter does bind, or stay engaged after a bout a second after the car starts. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the 998 dustshield. I'm not sure if there is a difference in thickness, but a google search said the ax15 dust shield was .2 to .255 mm thicker that the 998. If this is the case, would using washers as a shim to get that extra space back help with the starter not disengaging properly?
