Transfer case linkage problem.

I've got a 6 cylinder manual transmission 93 cherokee that I'm rebuilding and I 've run into a rather strange fitment issue with the transfer case shift linkage that I can't figure out. I've tried both the manual and automatic bracket and there's a strange gap that won't allow the linkage to fit. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

otaking71 Thank you for the photos. The Novak SK2XC cable shifter would replace all the linkage underneath the XJ from the transfer case shifter handle to the Jeep NP231/NP242 case.
