Recently installed a Novak AX-15 transmission in my 1994 Wrangler. Installation went smooth, however, immediately noticed the new transmission was noisier than anticipated.
Used synchromesh manual transmission fluid as instructed by Novak.
Contacted customer service around 200 miles and was informed to keep driving on it till 500 miles then call back. Was also advised that AX – 15 transmissions can be noisy.
I’ve read on forums that red line can quiet transmissions down quite a bit. Tried redline, but there was no change.
Waiting to hear back after I left a voicemail this morning with Novak. Tried uploading a video I took of the noise under-load and while costing however this platform says it’s too large.
To me, it sounds like a noisy output bearing as it only occurs when the transmission is in gear and the wheels are moving.
Noise only occurs more vehicle is in gear and wheels are moving. It is not the throwout bearing or pilot bearing. I can get it to make the same noise while the transfer case is a neutral and shifting through gear one through five as well.
There seems to be a bit of resonance coming through the shifter into the knob. I have replaced the Teflon bushing that goes on the end of the shifter which inserts in the transfer case thinking it might be that, but it did not change anything.
there is also a B&M short shifter installed however noise occurs with factory shifter as well.
