This arm is machined from aluminum billet, and is splined to match the included spline hub which attaches to the GM sector shaft on the driver's side of the transmission. The arm can be set by this mechanism to achieve the best mechanical advantage over its sweep, in relation to the angle of the shifter rod or cable, as applicable.

It works in Push or Pull scenarios.

The arm is slotted for the installer to set the leverage vs. sweep distance required for the available linear travel of the linkage.

Factory Cable Shifter Anchor Bracket

When doing an XJ or TJ conversion, replacing the factory automatic and retaining your factory console shifter, this arm is often used in conjunction with Novak's X-SK794 shifter cable anchor bracket. This bracket fastens to the ~8 o'clock bolt hole behind the GM automatic (TH350, TH400, TH700R4, 4L60E, etc.) bellhousing flange and provides an anchor point for the adjustable OE cable housing.

Installation Requirements

Installation will require basic hand tools, some understanding of the physics of leverage and some basic math to set the fulcrum, initial angle, sweep and final angle of the arm in relation to the available travel of the factory linkage.

Any factory console shifter detents or comb plates may need to be removed, as the installer will rely on the detents provided in the GM transmission, itself.

Notes

We can suggest the following distance settings for the arm pivot center to the linkage bearing end, as set in the available slot in the arm for the TH350, TH400, 700R, 4L60E and 4L80E transmissions:

  • JK: 1.83"
  • XJ (replacing the AW4): 1.45"
  • FSJ (replacing the AMC TH400 or TF727): 1.88"
  • CJ (replacing the AMC TH400, TF909/999): 1.88"
  • YJ: (replacing the TF909/999/32RH): 1.88"

Your results may vary, but these may offer good starting points for your testing and further adjustment.

Column Shift Position Indicator

Note that the factory shifter position indicators may not match the new transmission. Console shifters can have a new Mylar indicator printed by a printer of the installer's choosing. Column shifter indicators for conversion transmissions are available from Ididit, Flaming River, or possibly others.
