Conversion Headers
for the
Ford Windsor Small Block V8 in Jeeps
The Ford Windsor V8's are great conversion engines for many Jeeps. Many factory manifolds complicate or impede good engine location and installation and provide restrictive flow for a motor that really wants to breathe. Our headers provide a compact, short and block-hugging design that will free up your installation for professional results.
These headers will work with nearly all major Windsor engines, including the 289, 302, 5.0L and the 351 / 5.7L. They will not work with the GT40P heads.

About the Headers
The header starts with a generous, 3/8" thick manifold flange. A patented port-seal surface is face ground at the mounting face of the engine head such that they can be used without a gasket. One is encouraged to use a hi-temp RTV sealant (preferred) or a even a traditional gasket (not included).
Featuring large 1-1/2" tubes, the primary pipes gather into a 2-1/2" collector. The collector flange itself is a three-bolt style. Included are the header-to-head bolts.
The headers are a medium length, measuring 6-3/4" from the center of the head flange to the bottom of the collector
The block-hugging design allows the installer to have the exhaust routed in one of the following three popular ways:
- One circuit under the oil pan, just in front of the sump, "Y"-ing into the opposite circuit which is typically run rearward on the side of the Jeep opposite that of the drop of its transfer case.
- As above, but under the bellhousing slope.
- As above, but behind the transfer case. Then, the exhaust tailpipe can exit the Jeep on either the driver's or passenger's side.
Coated or Natural Steel
The basic header is offered in natural steel, which the customer can optionally have finished in a variety of hi-temp enamels or other finshes that will offer rust protection and good appearance.
The coated version of these headers are finished in an extremely durable, insulative and attractive Alu-Ceramic compound. This finish offers the added benifit of lower underhood temperatures and the highest level of protection to the header.
Starters
Most factory starters that are not oversized seem to work well. However, one can assure the greatest clearance and success by using gear-drive starters, such as these brands:
- Lester #3223 or #3241
- Powermaster #9172
- Tuff Stuff #6132
