Engine to Transmission Adaptation
Here is the collection of Jeep-native or conversion transmissions that can be mixed and matched into your powertrain. Note that in many circumstances, one will choose to install a transmission that is native to the conversion engine being installed, and that transmission can then be adapted to the Jeep transfer case.

- Three Speeds -
T90
The T90 is the most famous of the Jeep three-speed transmissions. Select for adapting GM Engines to the Jeep T90
T150
The Jeep T150 is the three-speed found in 1976-1979 Jeeps. Select for adapting the Jeep T150 to GM Engines
T15
The Jeep T15 is the strongest of the three-speeds and a good conversion candidate. Select for adapting the Jeep T15 to GM Engines
T14
The Jeep T14 is a good conversion candidate. Select for adapting the Jeep T14 to GM Engines
- Four Speeds -
Jeep T18
Some of the 12 different Jeep T18's are adaptable to GM engines. Select for adapting the Jeep T18 to GM Engines
Jeep T176
The T176 (and T177 / T178) is native to 1980 - 1986 Jeeps as the medium duty upgrade. Select for adapting GM Engines to the T176 Transmission
Ford NP435
The New Process 435 is sometimes adaptable to GM bellhousings. Select for adapting Ford Transmissions to GM Bellhousings
Ford T18 / T19
The Ford T18 can be adapted to GM bellhousings. The T19 is more difficult. Select for adapting Ford Transmissions to GM Bellhousings
M715/M72x Military Jeep T98
The T98 transmission is the predecessor to the T18 and similar in appearance and design. Select for adapting GM Engines to the Jeep T98 as found in Kaiser M715 / M72x Military Trucks
Utility Trucks Jeep T98
The T98 transmission is the predecessor to the T18 and similar in appearance and design. Select for adapting GM Engines to other Jeep T98's
Jeep SR4
The SR4 is a car transmission that was installed in CJ Jeeps for two years. The SR4 is usually not strong enough for factory power, and certainly not strong enough for GM power. Please read Conversions We Don't Do
Jeep T4
The T4 was the standard four-speed in the 1982-1986 CJ. The T4 is usually not strong enough for factory power, and certainly not strong enough for GM power. Please read Conversions We Don't Do
- Five Speeds -
Jeep AX15
The AX15 is a great conversion transmission to retain with your GM powerplant. Select for adapting GM Engines to the Jeep AX15 Transmission.
Jeep NV3550
The NV3550 is a great conversion transmission to retain with your GM powerplant. Select for adapting GM Engines to the Jeep NV3550 Transmission.
Jeep T5
The T5 was the standard five-speed in the 1982-1986 CJ. The T5 is usually not strong enough for factory power, and certainly not strong enough for GM power. Select to read Conversions we Don't Do.
Jeep AX5
The AX5 was the light-duty, five-speed transmission in the 1984-2003 XJ, YJ & TJ Jeeps. The T5 is usually not strong enough for factory power, and certainly not strong enough for GM power. Select to read Conversions we Don't Do.
Jeep BA10/5
The Peugeot BA10/5 had a gratefully short run in Jeeps. The T5 is usually not strong enough for factory power, and certainly not strong enough for GM power. Select to read Conversions we Don't Do.
- Six Speeds -
NSG370
The NSG370 is the first six-speed ever to be installed in factory Jeeps. It is strong, and a fantastic adaptation to GM engines. Select for adapting GM Engines to the NSG370 Transmission.
